Step-by-Step Guide to Generate a Report Showing Costs Per Resource Group in Azure

This guide explains how to generate a report in Azure Cost Management that breaks down costs per resource group. This type of report is essential for allocating spending to specific projects or departments and optimizing costs.

Step 1: Access Azure Cost Management

  1. Log in to the Azure Portal: Navigate to the Azure Portal.
  2. Go to Cost Management + Billing:
  • In the left-hand menu, select Cost Management + Billing.
  • Under Cost Management, click Cost Analysis.

Step 2: Configure the Scope for the Report

  1. Select Scope:
  • In the Cost Analysis page, click the Scope drop-down.
  • Choose the Subscription, Resource Group, or Management Group for which you want to generate the report.

2. Set the Time Period:

  • Use the Time Period drop-down to select the time range for the report. For example:
  • Month-to-Date for the current month’s data.
  • Last 7 Days for a weekly snapshot.
  • Or set a Custom Range if you want to analyze a specific period.
